Overview
What the evlat command does, and a first run in a minute.
Evlat’s bar shows your AI coding sessions by itself. The evlat command puts everything else there: a build, a test run, a deploy, a render, a nightly import. Anything that takes long enough that you go and do something else.
A first run
With the command installed, put evlat watch in front of something slow:
evlat watch npm run buildA ring appears on the bar while it runs. It turns green when the build exits 0 and red, with the exit code, when it doesn’t. Your terminal sees no difference: same output, same colours, same exit code.
Two commands
evlat watchWrap a command you already run. Nothing to change in the command itself.
evlat signalDrive a row from your own script: progress, waiting for you, done, failed.
Safe to leave in scripts
When Evlat isn’t running, both commands stay silent: evlat watch just runs the command and evlat signal exits 0. A script that uses them runs unchanged on a CI machine or a colleague’s laptop.
Where to go next
- Recipes: a shorter word, long jobs in steps, asking before a deploy.
- Remote servers: the same command on a machine you reach over ssh.
- HTTP API: post rows from Python, Node or anything that speaks HTTP over a unix socket.
