Troubleshooting

Nothing on the bar, command not found, rows that vanish.

Most questions are answered by one command:

evlat --list

Read its signal: line first. What each answer means.

Nothing shows up

  • Is Evlat running? The commands stay silent when it isn’t.
  • The socket: line says in use — answered …: something that isn’t Evlat holds the socket. See the socket: line.
  • Did you set EVLAT_SOCKET or EVLAT_HOME? Evlat and the command must see the same ones. EVLAT_PORT is gone: with it set, evlat watch sends nothing and evlat signal prints EVLAT_PORT is gone; use EVLAT_SOCKET. See environment.
  • More than 32 rows at once: new ones aren’t shown until older ones end.

Nothing since updating Evlat

Hooks installed by an older version stay silent until they are updated. Open Settings → This Mac: each card that says Needs update moves with one press. For a server, use Settings → Servers. Open Claude Code sessions pick the change up with their next message; Codex asks you to trust the new hooks in /hooks.

command not found: evlat

~/.local/bin isn’t on your PATH, or the evlat command isn’t set up yet. See Install.

A row disappeared

  • It was working or waiting and outlived its --ttl without a new call. A long job should call again, or pass a longer --ttl.
  • It had finished and you had already seen it.
  • Evlat restarted: rows live in memory only.
  • Another call cleared it, or reused its ID for something else.

The row lost its name

Every call replaces the whole row. Pass --label on each call, not just the first. See evlat signal.

Evlat refused a signal

evlat signal exits 1 and prints one line saying why, for example a --progress outside 0–1. The HTTP API lists every reason.

Nothing from a server

Run evlat --list on the server. It names the problem in one line. See Remote servers.

Still stuck

Open an issue on GitHub with the output of evlat --list.
