Commands
evlat watch
Run any command as it is and keep a ring on the bar while it runs.
evlat watch [--label TEXT] [--sender TEXT] [--] COMMAND [ARG…]Runs COMMAND exactly as it would run without Evlat — same terminal, colours, input and exit code — and keeps a ring on the bar while it runs.
evlat watch npm run build
evlat watch docker build -t app .
evlat watch --label "e2e suite" -- make testOn the bar
| When | The row |
|---|---|
| Running | working: a turning ring, with the folder it runs in as its detail. |
| Exit 0 | green: done. |
| Any other exit | red, with exit N and the folder. |
| Killed by a signal | red, with signal N and the folder. |
A finished row you haven’t looked at yet stays on the bar until you’ve seen it.
Flags
| Flag | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
--label TEXT | the command line, cut to 80 characters | The row’s name on the bar. |
--sender TEXT | the program’s name | The small tag beside the name. |
-- | Ends Evlat’s flags. Needed only when the command itself starts with -. |
Evlat’s flags go before the command. Everything from the command on is passed to it untouched, including its own flags.
Your terminal
- Evlat writes nothing to your terminal, ever: not when it starts, not when it can’t reach the bar.
- Ctrl-C and other signals reach the command as they always do.
- If Evlat is closed, the command simply runs.
Exit code
| Code | Means |
|---|---|
| the command’s own | Whatever the command exited with. |
| killed by its signal | If the command was killed by a signal, evlat watch ends the same way. |
127 | The command was not found. |
126 | The command could not be started. |
2 | A mistake in Evlat’s own flags (nothing was run). |
